New Complex
Columbia Pike is going to get a new complex at the northwest corner of the Pike and George Mason Drive. This complex will include residential units and ground floor retail along with a plaza that will serve as the main square for the Village Center. The developer is Orr Partners.
Update 3/22/2017
At the Arlington Mill Civic Association Meeting on March 21, 2017
David Orr of Orr Partners announced that they expected to break ground for this complex in June of this year and that the project would take about 2 years to complete. He also went on to say that the complex will get a more interesting name that will be announced in the future.
In addition to showing drawings of the building and public square Orr also showed renditions of the interior which he said would be
cooler and edgier
. The drawings of the lobby showed an elegant modern space which will probably include a coffee shop. Among some of the amenities for the tenants will be an Outdoor Pool, Fitness Center, Yoga Room, Club Room, Free WiFi. Harris Teeter which will open in fall 2019 will be the main store with dedicated parking spaces. There will be additional retail space facing Columbia Pike and offices in the back. Mr. Orr also talked about the public art for the square and that there had been some changes see below

Sculpture
Kendra Haste a British animal sculptor working in the medium of galvanized steel wire will create sculptures for the new Village Square. These sculptures are expected to be completed in 2017.

Update 03/22/2017
David Orr at the Arlington Mill Meeting (see above) announced thats Kendra Haste's sculptures will now be installed inside the complex, instead of in the square. He explained that artists Mary Orr and Danni Dawson would collaborate to create bronze sculptures of Bears that will be cast in Baltimore and then installed in the square.
UPDATE: 2/20/2016 Arlington County Board approves Village Center Square redevelopment .

There are a number of food trucks operating out of the parking lot and each year starting in late November the Lions Club sells Christmas Trees there.

Earlier this year (2015) Arlington Residents were asked to answer a questionnaire in regards to the public square.
